Hello all,
Just a little update on my current research and direction of the New
Penguin Sleuth Kit.....I have been experimenting with several live cd
creation tools....As you all know I started the Penguin Sleuth Kit CD
by remastering Knoppix for forensics use....Since then several Knoppix
remasters have emerged in the forensics and security communities.
Although the Penguin Sleuth Kit had several security tools, it was the
first Knoppix remaster with forensics and live previewing in
mind....As stated in my earlier post many projects have emerged and I
feel proud to see the communities efforts in the boot cd arena....At
the beginning of last year I decided to move the Penguin Sleuth Kit
away from the Bootable CD concept into the emerging technology of
virtual computing. Now I have decided to not only bring the Penguin
Sleuth Kit in to the realm of virtual computing but I also plan to
bring it back to the Boot CD realm.....Actually it is a project that
will bring the two together....
Now what do I mean by this? Well, I will be offering the Penguin
Sleuth Kit Virtual Computer Platform with the ability to create your
own Boot CD from scratch...Yes from scratch or you can add tools to my
new PSK Boot CD.....Basically it will give the user the ability to
customize his own boot cd to their liking....One of the complaints I
always got was how my CD was missing a tool or how some of the tools
on the CD were not for them....Now guess what....You can make your
own!!! AND GUESS WHAT!!!! YOU CAN DO IT ON A WINDOWS BOX!!!!! So
stay tuned!!!!!
Now keep in mind that this project is still in it's initial stage of
research and development....I am still researching several tools and
resources plus writing some scripts that may make it possible so wish
me luck!!! I am pretty confident I can pull it off....
The Penguin Sleuth Kit has always been about innovation within the
computer forensics community through open source software....I hope
you all will be pleased with the results....
Now that being said, I will have to delay on working on the website,
but be patient I should be running well soon.....Although the website
has not been updated lately it still has many useful newsfeeds and
forums.....
Till next time.....
Ernie
